ASUS ROG Phone 3 preview: An upgraded gaming phone that feels familiar

Engadget

COVID-19 may have canceled Computex this year, but there's no stopping ASUS from delivering its annual upgrade to mobile gamers. Following the accessory-laden ROG Phone II, today the Taiwanese giant finally unveiled its first 5G phone, the ROG Phone 3, which is also one of the first devices to carry Qualcomm's faster Snapdragon 865 Plus processor, offering a 10 percent boost in both CPU and GPU speeds. ASUS also made significant upgrades elsewhere, aimed at giving hardcore mobile gamers a competitive advantage. From afar, you could easily mistake the ROG Phone 3 for its predecessor, and that's understandable. During the planning process, ASUS decided that it wanted to use the ROG Phone II as a blueprint for its next gaming phone so that existing users can keep their accessories for their phone upgrade.

Set up a second screen for your computer

Popular Science

Most computers have the built-in ability to power a second screen. To get started, check out your laptop or desktop to find a HDMI or DisplayPort socket. If you own an older computer, you might be looking for a white DVI or a blue VGA socket instead. All four types of ports let you connect your computer to a television, projector, or other secondary screen. If your computer has one of these ports, all you need is the proper cable.

HTC's U Ultra and Play look AMAZING but are they any good?

#artificialintelligence

HTC has struggled to keep up in the past few years, its phones veering from the gimmick-laden Ultra Pixel camera HTC One M8 to the mediocre M9, and settling on the solid but overpriced HTC 10. This year the firm has gone full circle back to gimmicks again, adding a second screen to its HTC U Ultra flagship. This is not a discrete second screen of the kind seen on the YotaPhone, but a strip that runs across the top of the phone's huge 5.7in screen. It shows notifications and shortcuts to apps you commonly use, whether the phone's main screen is on or off. That's not the only phone HTC announced today, though.

HTC's 'U Ultra' flagship phone pairs AI with a secondary screen

Engadget

Last year, HTC's flagship 10 smartphone won plenty of accolades -- we liked it because the company bucked the gimmicks and built a no-nonsense device that was excellent in its own right. With a new year comes a new flagship, though, and this time HTC is taking a very different approach. Meet the HTC U Ultra, a peculiar little machine that'll feel at least a little familiar to fans of other high-end smartphones. When we say "familiar," though, we're not talking about the phone's design and materials. In fact, the U Ultra's look is unlike any in recent memory. Some of HTC's usual design flourishes, like the pill-shaped fingerprint sensor and the centered UltraPixel camera are still here, but designers traded the usual aluminum look for a finish that looks almost liquid.
